ULTRASOUND PICTURE OF RENAL TUBERCULOSIS

A NEW PERSPECTIVE OF RENAL TUBERCULOSIS

Based on current attitudes, tuberculous changes in the kidneys cannot be recorded using ultrasonography. All the authors who have addressed the issue in different monographs and textbooks expressly stress “renal tuberculosis lacks its pertinent ultrasound picture“!
Radiological methods, mostly urography, are currently used for this purpose and the findings are generally based on indirect indicators. Tuberculous focus in the parenchyma is invisible and therefore, no changes within it may be recorded or analyzed.
My discovery denies the above! Ultrasonographic picture of renal tuberculosis indeed exists, it is rather characteristic and I have described and defined it! It is easily and unmistakably recognized as a whole, directly with possibility of monitoring of all changes taking place within tuberculous foci.
I have named the obtained ultrasonographic picture THE MEDALLION SIGN, similarly to the picture of the primary TB focus, while primary TB focus is only one of the manifestations of the renal tuberculosis, its basic starting form.
